The Apprentice Facilities Technician will be an integral part of the Janssen Cork Bio Facilities Team based at its Ringaskiddy Co Cork plant.The successful candidate will be required to work to a high standard, adhere to work schedules and have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
This Janssen Apprenticeship role will be supported academically through the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) Apprenticeship Program provided by the Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board, www.icetb.ie.
The successful candidate will attend block releases through a number of phases throughout this 3-year apprenticeship program. This will consist of 16 weeks off the job training for each of the 3 years at its Limerick campus.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Key Responsbilities of the Role are as follow:
- Carrying out all routine and non-routine tasks as delegated by Facilities Hard services lead according to appropriate procedures and standards.
- Investigating faults in a structured manner, carrying out safety and quality checks, preventative and reactive maintenance tasks.
- Ensuring that housekeeping standards are maintained to a very high standard.
- Dealing effectively and safely with all service requests and incidents.
- Ensure all work activities are carried out as per SAP PM schedule.
- Electrician, mechanical and civil experience provided.
Key Skills and Competencies required:
- Leaving Certificate, Grade 06 at ordinary level in 5 subjects plus a pass in Math and a language (may include English or Irish).
- Must also have full fluency in English.
On the Job Support:
The successful Apprentice Facilities Maintenance Technician will be provided with extensive on the job, coaching and mentoring support during the 3 year program, these to include:
- Reporting directly to an assigned Facilities Support for Apprenticeship personnel.
- Schedule and regular one to one individual meetings with line manager.
- Will have a full and detailed work schedule aligned with the OEM training program.
- Assigned mentor that will provide mentoring support for key elements of the program.
- Full training booklet including Standard Operation Procedures (SOP’s), Technical Manuals, on the job instructions.

OEM Engineer Apprenticeship
Our OEM Apprentices will be to joining as part of our Maintenance Department to be based in both Plant 1 & Plant 2 in our Naas, Co. Kildare location.
An OEM Apprentice is a trainee technician supporting the maintenance team in performing corrective and preventative maintenance to a high standard. Over the course of the program, our OEM Apprentice will prepare and upskill to become a multi-skilled maintenance technician. The complexity of tasks increases as skills levels and competence develop within the program.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Adherence to Apprentice & Training Coordinator’s instructions or any other senior member of the maintenance team.
* To have the ability to take instruction and direction, especially in the areas of Health and Safety and Food Safety.
* To have a willingness to learn and develop in all facets of the training program – electrical and mechanical biases.
* To assist in maintaining the building, attics, workshops, production floors in clean and tidy state, completing fabric upgrades and cleaning tasks when instructed.
* Provide maintenance support, entering data into CMMS system, updating equipment records, and participating in continuous improvement follow up.
* Supporting Production Team in achieving targets through machine downtime resolution
* Completion of tasks assigned including, PMs on assets, building and fabric repairs and production line support.
* Following up to date stores and parts procedures, including booking out and returning of parts form the maintenance stores.
* Observing all onsite policies and legislative rules and regulations in terms of Food Safety and Health and Safety.
* Adhering to site policy directives on environmental issues, i.e. Control and use of oils and greases, disposal of lights & batteries.
* Control of contractors and acting as Liaison Person as and when required.
* Further responsibilities may be added from time to time as the strategy evolves.
Eligibility & Qualification Requirements:
* Minimum applicant age is 16.
* Must pass the ISHIHARA colour vision test.
* Leaving Certificate (pre-2017) with grade D3 or Higher in five subjects which must include mathematics. Post 2017 applicants must have achieved five O6 in the Leaving Certificate which must include Mathematics.

- Have successfully completed an approved preapprenticeship training course in an engineering discipline and demonstrate a proficiency in Mathematics similar to O6 in Leaving Certificate.

JOB TITLE: OEM Engineering apprentice REPORTS TO: Maintenance Manager
ROLE PURPOSE: The OEM Engineer apprentice is responsible for assisting with the corrective, preventative and predictive maintenance of all on-site manufacturing machines and equipment to ensure maximum efficiency.
The OEM Engineer apprentice will assist Maintenance Technicians to maintain all machines and equipment to the highest possible standards, and in the case of unplanned maintenance requirements, carries out effective troubleshooting and fault-finding to keep downtime to a minimum.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist/Carry out corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance to support Production in achieving targets and continual improvement using Lean Principles.
• Support Maintenance Technicians in all aspects of machine and equipment maintenance, installation and modification.
• Perform detailed equipment maintenance, PMs, troubleshooting and repairs.
• Gain experience maintaining equipment (including automation and other calibrated equipment) to ensure they are in excellent condition, ensuring consistent quality, output and yield.
• Learn to interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, equipment/system layouts, and specifications in planning and performing maintenance and repairs.
• Service/Maintain closed loop water systems/dosing equipment/in line filtration systems.
• Learn how to systematic root-cause problem solving and troubleshooting to resolve issues.
• Assist and support maintenance technician projects to improve equipment reliability.
• Document all maintenance work, including upgrades, carried out on existing equipment, including preventative maintenance performed and parts used, to ensure appropriate documentation and records of repair history.
• Maintain an effective system for the availability, issue and control of spare parts for all equipment; order and maintain appropriate stock of spare parts.
• Maintain the highest standards of hygiene and housekeeping.
• Ensure highest Quality & Compliance standards, participating and complying with the Quality Management System.

Mastek is the leading provider of high-quality slurry solutions (reels, dribble bars, pumps), grassland subsoilers/panbusters, mulching equipment and balers. Our products are designed and manufactured in Cootehill, Co. Cavan and sold throughout Europe, the UK, Scandinavia, Australia and New Zealand.
This is a three-year Level 6 Engineering Apprenticeship with both on the job learning and off the job education in Cavan and Monaghan ETB’s Monaghan Institute Campus. The programme will train its apprentice in a diverse range of engineering skills and processes within the Engineering Sector with the possibility to progress to a Bachelor Engineering Degree.
Mastek will employ and pay the Apprentice during the three-year programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform on the job tasks relevant to the current phase/module
- Work with the Mentor and Supervisors in all duties to ensure learning
- Take responsibility for your own learning by practicing in the workplace the newly learned skills to the required standard of accuracy, speed and quality
- Ensure your apprenticeship booklet is maintained and assignments completed
- Ensure Health & Safety Standards are always maintained
- Ensure that you take responsibility and leadership whilst working in a neat and tidy manner
- Be consistent in attendance during college blocks of 14 weeks per year
- Complete assignments and assessments in a timely manner

Upon successful completion of the programme applicants will graduate with an Advanced Certificate in Original Equipment Manufacturing.
