Tasks / Responsibilities of the Role

An OEM Engineering Apprentice is a trainee Engineering Technician supporting the maintenance team in performing corrective and preventative maintenance to a high standard. Over the course of the programme, our OEM Engineering Apprentice will prepare and upskill to become a multi skilled maintenance technician. The complexity of tasks increase as skill levels and competence develop.

As an OEM Engineering Apprentice, you will:

•  Cultivate the skills necessary to assemble, install, test, carry out fault diagnostics, and commission electrically controlled engine driven (diesel and gas) and battery powered systems

•  Analyse electromechanical systems including electrical wiring, hydraulics, pneumatics, and robotics to identify and resolve faults encountered in OEM products

•  Develop the expertise to provide support to customers regarding the use and maintenance of the products they manufacture

•  Interpret technical data and use calibration and testing instruments for effective product assembly, fault diagnosis, and rectification

•  Be responsible for the installation and calibration of sensors for transmitting and controlling devices

•  Act as a key member of cross functional teams such as research and development, assembly, manufacturing, testing, electrical, customer support, service and installation, product management, and marketing/sales

Entry Requirements

Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll learn valuable skills including fault diagnosis, preventative maintenance, fluid power systems assembly and testing, mechanical device maintenance, electrical equipment wiring and testing, hydraulics and pneumatics, and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) operations.

As part of our team, you’ll respond promptly to breakdowns, investigating, finding, and implementing solutions quickly. You’ll also make suggestions for long-term improvements. From CAD design, 3D printing, to overseeing general site maintenance and repairing key distribution equipment, our team handles most aspects of Amazon’s technical operations.

Throughout the apprenticeship you will work towards an NFQ Level 6 Advanced Certificate in OEM Engineering combining practical, on-the-job experience with industry-recognised study. The first 16 weeks of each year you will be full time residential (classroom training) at one of our training providers’ facilities. As a result, you may be required to travel to the accommodation on a Sunday and to work away from home until Friday each week during term-time (costs will be supported by Amazon), combined with short periods working at one of our Fulfilment Centres/Sort Centres/Delivery Stations.
Subsequent years will comprise on-the-job training in a Fulfilment Centre, while concurrently completing academic training. Not only will you receive invaluable learning, development, and professional experience, you will also gain a number of externally recognized qualifications.

You will learn directly from experienced technicians and engineers and gain exposure to real engineering projects. You’ll support our 24/7 operation in shift covering days, nights and weekends in patterns that reflect the real-world schedules of engineers who keep Amazon operating around the clock.

Important Qualification Reminder
As part of the recruitment and enrolment process for this apprenticeship, candidates must provide proof of all required qualifications. Original certificates or certified copies must be submitted. This is a mandatory requirement to secure the position. The deadline for providing qualification certificates for the OEM Engineering Technician programme is 17 July 2026. Applications without verified qualifications by this date will automatically be unsuccessful. Failure to provide proof of qualifications by the stated deadline will result in the withdrawal of any conditional offer, and you will not be able to commence the apprenticeship programme. Previous qualifications will be reviewed for funding eligibility and offers may be withdrawn for applicants who do not meet funding criteria.

Basic Qualifications

– Have lived in the UK or an EEA, or British overseas territory for 3 years or more prior to commencing the apprenticeship (September 2026)
– Be a resident of IRE for the duration of the apprenticeship
– You are not registered to study on a UK or IRE government funded course ending August 2026 or later
– You will be 18 years old or older before entering an Amazon building (September 2026)
– You will have obtained a Leaving Certificate with five 06 or higher grades which must include Mathematics or Leaving Certificate Applied with five passes plus Level 5 Mathematics and one year industry experience OR
– Have successfully completed an approved pre-apprenticeship training course in an engineering discipline and demonstrate a proficiency in Mathematics similar to 06 in Leaving Certificate OR
– A full award placed at Level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications (EQF 4) which includes proficiency in Mathematics similar to 06 in Leaving Certificate OR

Preferred Qualifications

– You have achieved a full award at NFQ Level 5 or Level 6 in a STEM, engineering, or technology-related discipline.

– You have successfully completed a pre-apprenticeship or traineeship in an engineering, manufacturing, or related field.

JOB TITLE: OEM Engineering apprentice REPORTS TO: Maintenance Manager

ROLE PURPOSE: The OEM Engineer apprentice is responsible for assisting with the corrective, preventative and predictive maintenance of all on-site manufacturing machines and equipment to ensure maximum efficiency.

The OEM Engineer apprentice will assist Maintenance Technicians to maintain all machines and equipment to the highest possible standards, and in the case of unplanned maintenance requirements, carries out effective troubleshooting and fault-finding to keep downtime to a minimum.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist/Carry out corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance to support Production in achieving targets and continual improvement using Lean Principles.

• Support Maintenance Technicians in all aspects of machine and equipment maintenance, installation and modification.

• Perform detailed equipment maintenance, PMs, troubleshooting and repairs.

• Gain experience maintaining equipment (including automation and other calibrated equipment) to ensure they are in excellent condition, ensuring consistent quality, output and yield.

• Learn to interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, equipment/system layouts, and specifications in planning and performing maintenance and repairs.

• Service/Maintain closed loop water systems/dosing equipment/in line filtration systems.

• Learn how to systematic root-cause problem solving and troubleshooting to resolve issues.

• Assist and support maintenance technician projects to improve equipment reliability.

• Document all maintenance work, including upgrades, carried out on existing equipment, including preventative maintenance performed and parts used, to ensure appropriate documentation and records of repair history.

• Maintain an effective system for the availability, issue and control of spare parts for all equipment; order and maintain appropriate stock of spare parts.

• Maintain the highest standards of hygiene and housekeeping.

• Ensure highest Quality & Compliance standards, participating and complying with the Quality Management System.

• Comply with all company policies and procedures, including quality requirements, financial controls, health and safety regulations, etc. The above list of duties and responsibilities is not exhaustive, and the role holder may be required to carry out other duties which may reasonably be assigned by management.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

Job Specification

Turmec Teoranta are now recruiting an apprentice on the Original Equipment Manufacturing Apprenticeship (Level 6) programme.

During the apprenticeship you will be employed by Turmec, earning a salary, and learning a range of engineering skills that are highly valued by the manufacturing industry.

The OEM apprenticeship is a three-year Level 6 apprenticeship with a focus on the engineering and manufacturing sectors, where you would learn a range of skills such as engineering drawing and design, design of electrical and hydraulic systems in addition to a practical understanding of all areas of equipment design.
